The Old Mine At Hemingfield
MiMuM Productions was commissioned in 2017 by the Dearne Valley Landscape Partnership to create a VR experience of Hemingfiled Colliery in South Yorkshire as it would have been in 1902 as a way to raise awareness and promote the ongoing restoration of the colliery.
The National Coal Mining Musuem archives kindly allowed access to the earliest photographs taken in underground workings and written descriptions from the time. These together with one remaining photograph and plan of the colliery buildings from 1902 and on site photography were used to create the VR world entirely using photogrammetry. The voice-over was written and narrated by Barnsley writer and broadcaster Ian McMillan.
The Old Mine At Hemingfield' has been shown at the industrial heritage centre where the colliery is located, at the National Coal Mining Museum, as well as being on view for one month at the Gazelli Art House gallery, London W1. Press coverage has included Yorkshire Post, Sheffield Star and also The New Statesman magazine. (see links below)
